March 18, 2020 - We're dealing with so much uncertainty in these strange and perilous days. As you can see, our calendar is full of show dates that we may not get to play. We don't know when the music will return, so we'll leave them on the calendar for now. We'll be deleting them as they get canceled, so please check here and/or on our Facebook page for up-to-date info on which shows will take place. And please, be careful out there. Wash your hands. Keep your distance. And keep the faith.
June 16, 2020 - As bars open up, we'll be trying to balance the risk and the fun of playing live music. The 5 of us have various levels of concern, so you'll likely see us at some shows with other musicians filling in. It'll still be The CheekTones--our songs, our energy, our love for the good times, if you come to a show. Stay safe!
November 23, 2020 - The CheekTones have still been trying to balance our desire to play live music and the need to stay safe during a pandemic. As temperatures drop, more of our gigs will be indoors, but we encourage you to follow the recommended safety guidelines if you're coming to a show. Our big change has been that our drummer, Gary Ukura, decided to hang up his drumsticks, and didn't return to join us when the gigs came back in the summer. We've had David Libman, a talented drummer from the Phoenix area, fill in on most of our gigs; Clyde Score and Scott Ellis are behind the drumkit when David can't be there. Gary Ukura was our drummer from the start, in 2007, so we miss his grooves and amazing voice, but wish him the best in whatever direction his musical life takes.
January 19, 2021 - Our collective recent past has brought so many changes, and The CheekTones are feeling that too. With the departure of our drummer last summer, we lost an essential third voice; three-part harmonies are a crucial part of our sound. So we have decided to bring on board a new bass player, Cozzy Bohrman, who is not only an excellent bassist, but also a great harmony singer. He comes from a musical Prescott family, and has played with Sugar And The Mint and The Faultlines, among others. Our original bass player, the talented Marty Love, leaves us with great memories of so many shows over the years. We thank him for his contribution to the band and our sound, and wish him all the best in his other musical projects. Check out his band, Jinx The Cat, when you can. And we welcome Cozzy Bohrman to The CheekTones!
The CheekTones are a Prescott band playing a spirited mix of rock standards and lesser-known covers, with a healthy portion of originals. The ‘Tones defy categories, stirring up tasty versions of tunes across the spectrum, from The Beatles to the Jackson Five, from Tom Petty to Bob Dylan, from Sly Stone to the Rolling Stones. And their originals are a blend of blues, folk, Americana, rock ‘n roll and good-time jams, with irresistible grooves and sharp lyrics. In 2015 they released their sophomore CD, Second Chance At A First Impression, an eclectic set of songs written by Don Cheek offering an earful of grooves and lyrics that move your mind, your heart—and your feet. And their 2018 release of a live CD conveys all the excitement of a live performance, the best way to hear The CheekTones!
